The picture on the cover is of Cantrell's Shoe Shop located in the Brown Hotel. Depicted in the 1950 photograph are left, Frank Cantrell, right Cecil Cantrell. The customer has, since publication, surfaced and was 14 year old Peggy Jane Cantrell, now Mrs. Slaughter. She said Rayford Davis took the picture.
This 127 page soft-cover book starts with old photographs of the Courthouse and comes forward to present days. It was produced for Warren County's Bicentennial Celebration in 1908. It is a treasure for those wishing to know about their ancestors and the county.

While Monty and Chris are the authors the book, the picture is not of them. It is a picture of Joe and Lee Lively with a catch of frogs. They are sons of W.S. “Dad” Lively, of Southern School of Photography fame.
This 127 page soft-cover book has too, too many people, pictures and events to start naming them. It is in celebration of the Bicentennial of McMinnville, Tennessee.
It is indeed a tribute to McMinnville and its inhabitants for two hundred years.

This is a reproduction of the 1920 Southern School of Photography Catalogue. It is quite complete in delineating the courses and physical attributes of the buildings condusive to the mastery of photography in its era. The student body came from all over the United States and Europe. W.S. Lively, President, was a highly acclaimed photographer in the United States and abroad. He built the largest camera for its time. It is now housed in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. along with some of his more outstanding photographs. His accolades would take another book. A facsimile reprint of Joseph Buckner Killebrew, Esq. in his 1871 report for the State of Tennessee reprinted and copyrighted in November 2007 by Southern Museum & Galleries, McMinnville,Tennessee. A photograph is included. The title does not do justice to the material covered in the report which covers topography, products, places, personalities and history of Warren County. Killebrew is a much quoted resource of many researchers today. |

Written while incarcerated for the murder of McMinnville City Marshall Enoch Cooksey, he details the circumstances con- cerning the murder of Enoch Cooksey in 1878 for which he was accused, tried and jailed. Many of McMinnville's prominent citizens of the era are cussed and discussed. He was eventually exonerated. This book was all but lost until salvaged and reprinted in 2001 by the Southern Museum and Galleries. The LIFE of JOHN H. SAVAGE

The Life of John H. Savage, originally published in 1903, has been
reprinted by Chris Keathley and Monty Wanamaker. The story of the
acquisition of the original book and the subsequent reprinting is
another story by itself. A limited edition of 250 copies, it
contains more than the original autobiography. There is an
introduction, additional biographical data, his obituaries and
salutations to his worth to the county. "The Old Man of the Mountains,"
John H. Savage was, as quoted from the local paper of the times,
". . . a man whose services to his country in war, politics, and
as a citizen, were of such great magnitude." Keathley and Wanamaker introduced their reprint to the public in May to commemorate Savage's death, April 5, 1904, and the 19 May, 1904, unveiling of the Memorial Monument he had commissioned to be erected in honor of the members of his 16th Infantry who died in service to the Confederate States of America. This monument stands in the courthouse yard in McMinnville today. The monument can be seen with the names and additional information on the Warren County website. ... $27.00 ppd. or $25.00 picked up.

This is a facsimile reprint of Mrs. Bentley's 1928 published edition and her only published work. She details the founding of the chalybate spring by Beersheba Porter Cain in the company of her husband John Cain. She was a diligent and careful researcher. Among her papers was a detailed outline of chapters of a book on Warren County history. Some of her extensive works are preserved in the Tennessee State Library and Archives. This volume was reprinted under the copyright of Monty Wanamaker and Chris Keathley in November 2005. |
